The Fine Art Gicleés of Joann Dost

Not surprisingly, most people are astounded by the depth, fine detail, saturated colors and painterly "feel" the first time they view one of our fine art Gicleé prints. The Gicleé (pronounced zhee-clay) process revolutionized the art reproduction process by allowing ateliers to print individual pieces of varying sizes one at a time. Before that time, artists were restricted by the quantity impositions of photolithography which often required the printing of hundreds or thousands of the same art image in the same size. This severely limited the number of images an artist was able to offer, since the financial outlays necessary to produce these photolithographs tally into the thousands of dollars. The development of Gicleé printing has changed the landscape forever. Now an artist can offer a wide variety of images and reproduce them in different sizes to meet the patrons needs.

Flexibility, however, is not the only reason Joann Dost has chosen the Gicleé process to reproduce her photographs. More than any other process she tried, the Gicleé technology rendered high-quality, richly colored, continuous tone images on a consistent basis. Using acid-free European watercolor papers, Joann prints her photographs with the pigment-based fine art inks specially developed by Epson for their depth of color and longevity.

To ensure the faithful reproduction of her photographs, Joann carefully supervises the creation of each Gicleé print. Each detail, including sharpness, color balance and saturation, selection of the inks and watercolor papers are determined personally by Joann prior to release of an edition. Each of her Gicleés is printed specifically to order and is inspected by Joann before she signs and numbers the individual piece.
